Cousin to the specs. Drift the channels in spring and fall.
Gray trout (officially weakfish) are speckled trout's deep-water cousin. Same family, different habitat. They hold in the channels and deeper holes around the inlet, especially when current is moving.
Drift cut bait, jig a lead-head, or work soft plastics on light tackle. Spring and fall are when they show up most consistently. Eating quality is excellent.
Strict NC regulations on size and bag limit. We release short fish carefully — they bruise easily.
